For our latest project, we teamed up with five makers to create their own personal designs inspired by our new yarns Rodeo and Luna. We asked the women a variety of questions about their lives, their work, and their designs. Read more to learn more about Breann Mauldin.

Crochet Blogger and Designer
Q. What is your name (Full) and Instagram account name(@”____”) Where are you from and current area of residency?
A. My name is Breann Mauldin and I’m from Tucson, AZ. You can find me on Instagram @hooked.on.homemade
Q. Do you Knit, Crochet or Both?
A. I only know how to crochet. But one of my 2018 goals is to learn to knit.
Q. Why does the yarn ( Rodeo/Luna) resonate with you given the persona?
A. The Luna yarn really gives you the opportunity to let your personality shine through! From subtle to bright, there’s a colorway for everyone.
Q. Describe yourself in 3 words?
Q. What is the best memory you have from when you first began knitting/crocheting?
A. All the best memories involve giving my handmade items as gifts. In particular, my favorite memory is making one of my first blankets. It was a lap blanket for my grandma and was a “Just Because” surprise gift. Her reaction and gratitude was everything. It taught me just how special my craft is.
Q. What is the hardest thing you have ever made?
A. I made a giant C2C blanket for my nephew. It was of a soldier in front of the American Flag. It was my first and last corner to corner. I love the look of graphghans! But making them is not for me.
Q. Why did you decide to begin your blog?
A. I wanted a place to share my makes and designs. I love making modern and fun crochet garments because being able to wear clothing I made myself is something truly special. There’s nothing quite like helping someone else achieve the same. Seeing fellow makers enjoying my designs always makes my day!
Q. What is some advice you could lend other makers seeking to do what you do (Going into this as a business and building your personal brand)?
A. Do what you love! Stay true to what you enjoy about crocheting and making. If you believe in what you’re making, chances are your readers are going to believe in it too. But most importantly, don’t compare yourself to other makers. I know this is the hardest part, but it’s so important to know that what you are making and doing is just as valuable and amazing as a fellow maker. Community over the competition.
Q. Tell us about your design and why you choose to make it?
A. I thought it would be fun to play with vertical stripes for something a bit different. So I designed this tunic in a poncho style. I always strive to make my designs easy to construct and this top is as easy as sewing 2 rectangles together. There is some detail in the stitches, but if you can single crochet and double crochet, you can make this top!
A. Tell us one thing you want readers to know about you that we haven’t covered in this interview?
B. I am truly blessed and thankful to be able to do what I do. Because of the blog, I can have the time and opportunity to homeschool my 3 kids. This past year has been incredible and I can’t wait to see what’s to come!
Now that you have learned a little about Breann stay tuned for the final project reveal!
